Sanford L. Severin, M.D.

Dr. Sanford L. Severin received his premedical training and Bachelors of Science degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. After graduating Cum Laude from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, he served his internship at the University of Michigan Medical Center and his residency in ophthalmology at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. He served a post-graduate fellowship with the famous corneal surgeon pioneer, Max Fine, M.D. Dr. Severin has served on the teaching staff of the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco, and the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida. 


Dr. Severin began his private practice in the Bay Area in 1968, and has been active in research and teaching in his field. He is an internationally recognized authority in the subject of anterior segment surgery and intraocular lens implantation. He lectures extensively and has traveled the world as a guest speaker to professional and civic organizations. He is one of only 2 American ophthalmologists chosen to present the first ophthalmic lens implantation course in Rome, Italy. His work has been published in many medical journals and text books used throughout the world.

He has taught refractive surgery courses to other physicians at the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) meetings.

Dr. Severin is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, and a member of the F.C. Cordes Society.
