Aimee R. P. Edell M.D.
Dr. Aimée R. P. Edell is a fellowship-trained, Board-Certified ophthalmologist specializing in refractive cataract surgery, complex cataract surgery, medical and surgical treatment of corneal diseases, and disorders of the ocular surface.
Dr. Edell was raised in New Hampshire. She graduated with a BA in biochemistry from Barnard College in New York City and obtained her MD degree from Dartmouth Medical School, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and wrote and directed an award-winning documentary film about River Blindness in Tanzania. She completed her medical internship and ophthalmology residency at New York University, where she served as Chief Resident and was the first ophthalmology resident to perform endothelial keratoplasty surgery at the Manhattan VA Hospital. She completed her fellowship training in Cornea and External Diseases at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston and the Tufts New England Eye Center.
Dr. Edell has taken care of East Bay residents for over a decade and performed thousands of surgeries. She enjoys understanding patients’ needs and developing targeted treatment plans. She also enjoys international service and travels to Guatemala to perform surgery and train local specialty ophthalmologists in a rural hospital setting.
Dr. Edell’s research is published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology and has been presented at annual meetings of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Her hobbies include hiking East Bay trails, ballet, and keeping up with her husband and two children.
